Warrant of arrests against businessman and taxi boss, Siyabonga Getsemane, his daughter, and others have been stayed by the Durban High Court.
The Durban High Court has stayed the execution of arrest warrants issued against controversial KwaZulu-Natal taxi boss Siyabonga Thomas Getsemane, his daughter and two other applicants, pending a legal challenge over the lawfulness of the warrants.
Judge Mluleki Chithi granted the interim order on Monday after hearing an urgent application brought by Getsemane against the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the Minister of Police and other respondents.
Police attempted to execute the warrants at Getsemane's home on July 17, but he was not there. The warrants had been authorised by the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court on June 26, 2026.
After failing to locate him, police contacted his attorney, Sibusiso Dlamini, who discovered that the warrants carried the same case number as a November 2023 matter in which Getsemane and 12 security guards had been arrested.
