MEXC has named Robert MacDonald as its new Chief Legal & Compliance Officer, pulling one of the most recognized compliance leaders in Asian crypto away from rival exchange Bybit. The move comes as centralized exchanges scramble to shore up their regulatory credentials ahead of increasingly aggressive enforcement timelines worldwide.

MacDonald brings over 18 years of experience as a UK-qualified barrister, with deep specialization in compliance and financial crime.

From Bybit to MEXC

MacDonald’s tenure at Bybit began in September 2024, where he served as Chief Legal & Compliance Officer. That stint earned him recognition in Asian Legal Business’ Top 15 chief compliance officers in Asia for 2025, a distinction that essentially marks him as one of the most credible compliance figures operating in the region.

His track record extends beyond Bybit. MacDonald has worked across multiple financial and crypto sector ventures, including roles associated with Binance.
