Mitchell's Plain Chess Club chairman Reggie Sinden keeps a close eye on the action during last week's tournament at Town Centre Library.
The were knights, kings and queens aplenty as the Town Centre Library in Mitchells became a hive of activity with young chess players.
The chess tournament held over the holidays in the competition room as children tried to outsmart each other with their chess moves.
The event brought together budding players from Town Centre, Rocklands and Lentegeur libraries, with the competition room buzzing as children carefully plotted their next move while proud parents and coaches watched from the sidelines.
For Mitchell’s Plain Chess Club chairman Reggie Sinden, the packed turnout was another sign that chess is steadily growing in the area. "We're the only chess club in Mitchell’s Plain, but the libraries have become important partners in helping us develop the game," he said.
