No fewer than 10 Rotary clubs have provided pregnancy care kits to expectant mothers at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, as part of a maternal health outreach tagged the Mother and Child Disease Prevention initiative.
The programme, led by the Rotary Club of Shomolu under its president, Adetola Adesanya, brought together the participating clubs under Rotary District 9112 and District 9126, in collaboration with the TIG Medicare Foundation and was supported by the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Prof Adetokunbo Fabamwo.
More than 100 pregnancy care kits, alongside several other essential gifts, were donated to expectant mothers to support healthy pregnancies and safe deliveries.
The outreach has been described as the first initiative of its kind in the district, where multiple Rotary clubs united under a single platform to execute one service project centred on maternal and child health, one of Rotary International’s seven areas of focus and the designated theme for July. Beyond the donations, beneficiaries received health education on prenatal care, nutrition, disease prevention, newborn care, breastfeeding and maternal well-being through interactive sessions led by medical professionals.
