July 22, 2026 — 10:13amA 16-year-old Perth boy has been charged with murder over an alleged stabbing attack that killed his mother and left his 12-year-old sister with serious injuries in hospital.Police were called to the scene of the attack in Bentley, in Perth’s south-east, early on Tuesday morning after the young girl fled to a nearby highway to raise the alarm.Police at the scene of a fatal stabbing in Bentley on Tuesday.9News PerthBystanders provided the girl with life-saving first aid. She remained in hospital recovering from her injuries on Wednesday.At the home, officers found the body of a 35-year-old woman, and the teenage boy was arrested at the scene.Speaking to media on Tuesday, WA Police Major Crime Acting Inspector Jessica Securo said the incident was being treated as a suspected family violence homicide.“This incident will have a significant impact on the family, friends and loved ones of all those involved ... our thoughts are with them all, particularly the 12-year-old girl,” she said.The boy’s sister ran to the nearby Albany Highway, where bystanders provided live-saving first aid.9News PerthSecuro said the boy was known to police, and detectives were examining previous interactions the family and boy had with authorities.A source close to the family told this masthead the boy had been before the justice system on a number of occasions.And the source said the family, who were allegedly known to the state’s child protection system, had reached out for support that never came.“He was failed by the courts,” the source said, after explaining that the boy had lived “a transient lifestyle” since he was 10 or 11 years old.“They reached out for support and got nothing,” the source said.“His family loved him. It’s a sad tragedy.”On Wednesday morning, police revealed the boy had been charged with murder over his mother’s death, and had also been charged with attempted unlawfully to kill over the injuries inflicted on his sister.From our partners
