GEK Terna is strengthening its presence in Romania following Monday’s signing in Bucharest of the contract for the Filiasi-Igiroasa (Lot 2) railway project.

The agreement was signed by the Romanian National Railway Company and the Track Works consortium, in which the construction arm of the GEK Terna Group participates with a 74% stake, together with Alstom Romania.

The project is allocated a budget of €380 million. According to an announcement, Lot 2 concerns the design and full rehabilitation of the section from Filiasi to Igiroasa, approximately 44 kilometers, as part of the broader project for the upgrade of the Craiova – Drobeta Turnu Severin – Caransebeș railway line.

Last spring, the consortium had also signed the contract for the first section (Lot 1) of the corridor, from Craiova to Filiasi, with a budget of €410 million, in which Terna participates with a 69% stake.

The two sections constitute the Craiova-Igiroasa railway corridor, with a total length of 83 kilometers, the complete design and reconstruction of which has been undertaken by Terna.
