Coronation Street's Sarah Platt burst into tears as she learned she was to be charged with the murder of Theo Silverton on Tuesday night's episode of Coronation Street20:38, 21 Jul 2026Coronation Street's Sarah Platt burst into tears as she learned she was to be charged with the murder of Theo Silverton. The factory supervisor, who has been played by Tina O'Brien on the world's longest-running TV soap since 1999, was sensationally revealed earlier this year to have killed evil scaffolder Theo by hitting him over the head with a pipe.‌It all came after months of Theo abusing Sarah's best friend Todd during their relationship, his death came after he provoked her with a string of insults during a confrontation on the builder's yard roof. Instead of calling partner DC Kit Green for fear of what it might mean for his career, she instead got ex-boyfriend Gary Windass (Mikey North) involved and for months, only those two knew the truth.‌Sarah eventually broke down and confessed all to Kit in recent scenes, and he has been trying to figure out a way to get her off the hook.‌As she headed up the case, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), who has a history of locking up innocent people, questioned all the wrong people and initially put innocent Summer Spellman behind bars, but now, having finally got something right, she had Sarah arrested earlier in the week.Lisa knew something was up when she found out he had tried to get hold of Sarah's clothes, which had been taken in as evidence after Theo's blood was found on them, and she coldly told her colleague: "CPS have decided to charge Sarah with murder. You've got to make a decision here, Kit. Do you want to keep protecting her, or do you wanna keep your career?"‌Towards the end of the episode, Kit delivered the news to Sarah and explained what would happen next. He said: "I know this is hard, I'm sorry, but as it stands, all the evidence is pointing to you. Lisa's got the bit between her teeth."She said: "I can't do this. I can't believe this is happening!" when Kit warned her that she would likely be sent straight to prison after her first appearance in court, but insisted that she needs to say that Gary forced her to act in the cover up, if for no other reason than to continue to be there for her young son Harry.‌When actress Tina O'Brien was first cast as Sarah, she was central to a controversial teenage pregnancy storyline and over the years, her character has been kidnapped several times and her stepfather, who turned out to be a serial killer, infamously tried to drown her and the rest of the family by driving them all into a canal.Since returning in 2015, Sarah has been married and divorced, and got away with covering up the murder of her drug dealer ex Callum Logan, who was killed by her now-deceased sister-in-law Kyle. With such a history with the programme, fans can't quite believe that this would be the kind of exit Sarah would receive and are sure that there must be another twist coming to keep her on the cobbles.‌Taking to X, one fan said: "Maybe if Kit stopped trying to frame Gary with zero evidence and stopped trying to intercept evidence implicating Sarah, people would stop believing he's covering for her."Another said: "As usual. How many murders will that be for Sarah? Soaps are so repulsive when it comes to morality," whilst a third wrote: "How is Sarah still staying in the show?! Surely there’s some twist coming that shows he wasn’t actually dead? I don’t see how they’d keep her in and we know she’s renewed the contract so she’s definitely not leaving!"Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.Article continues below* Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .
