Manapparai Government Arts and Science College has over 1,000 students on its rolls, making it one of the most popular choices among the youth in Tiruchi. However, its campus in Pannapatti, is facing serious infrastructural problems, including severe water shortage, absence of bus connections, and other facilities such as sports ground and canteen.The college initially functioned from a government school campus in Pannapatti before being shifted to its permanent site inaugurated by former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in 2025. The institution’s seven departments have an enrolment of over 1,000 students.As the borewell on the campus has dried up, the institution relies on private water tankers and the borewell water of a nearby panchayat. Due to the water scarcity, the green areas are no longer being maintained, giving an unkempt look to the campus. Besides, the college does not have a compound wall, and as a strange addition, has a panchayat road passing through the campus.Local social activist M. Hussain said that due to the infrequent transport connections, students are often forced to walk long distances after class to board a bus, raising safety concerns. When contacted, Principal N Malarmadhi told The Hindu that a petition listing out the problems faced by the college had been submitted to the Tiruchi District Collector Pratik Tayal. “We have been assured that the issues would be resolved in due course by the authorities,” she said.
