A large number of children from economically weaker sections of society has benefited from the community vision care initiative by Maxivision Super Speciality Eye Hospitals in Tiruchi.In the past five years since its inception, the drive, conducted by the hospital in in partnership with the Shiv Bhagat family in memory of their son Anish, has screened over 10,000 students and provided more than 600 pairs of eyewear free of cost to children in need.This year, the hospital’s medical teams screened over 2,250 students across G. Shakunthala Higher Secondary School, E.R. Higher Secondary School, and Ponniah School in Tiruchi, which enabled early detection of vision problems. More than 150 deserving students will receive prescription spectacles at no cost, according to a press release by the hospital.In his comments, Shibu Varkey, the hospital’s regional medical director, Tamil Nadu said, “Our objective goes beyond providing screenings and spectacles; it is about enabling children to read the classroom board clearly, participate confidently in lessons and pursue their education without avoidable barriers.” Published - July 21, 2026 06:44 pm IST
