The cyber crime wing of the Cyberabad Police facilitated the refund of more than ₹25 crore to victims of cyber fraud between January and July, with officials attributing the recovery to prompt investigations, timely freezing of fraudulent transactions, and coordination with banks and the judiciary.The recovered amount was restored to victims through court orders after fraudulent transactions were traced and frozen. Officials said the refund process involves multiple agencies, including banks, the police and the courts, making some delay unavoidable, though efforts are made to expedite the restoration of funds.The police also highlighted the rollout of the Money Restoration Module (MRM), introduced by the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), to simplify and speed up the refund process. Under the system, victims whose funds have been identified as recoverable receive an SMS and email with a link to the MRM portal, where they can verify their details, upload the required documents and submit their claim electronically. Once verified by the investigating officer, the eligible amount is credited directly to the victim’s bank account.
