“I highlight collarbones in the way I do the cheekbones, to make them stick out and look high,” says Kay Montano, the make-up artist who put Kate Moss in moisturiser and no make-up for the early 1990s Calvin Klein Obsession perfume campaign. Today, for red-carpet clients including Julianne Moore and Jennifer Connelly, she pulls just two products from her kit bag: Chanel’s Baume Essentiel Multi-Use Glow Stick and Elemis Superfood Glow Priming Moisturiser, which she applies to the face, neck, collarbone and shoulders. “It’s pearly but not glittery – that’s very important. And anything oily goes all over the clothes.” Using a firm brush, she blends the Elemis downwards from the jawline: “I like the Victoria Beckham Beauty Buffer Brush [£57],” she says. With the Chanel, “I quickly rub it along the collarbone or any part of the body you want to highlight. I use it along the top of the shoulders as I love the way it looks in pictures.” Merit Beauty’s Day Glow Highlighting Balm and Violette FR’s Baume Shine have a similar creamy crayon application.
