HIV stigma still persists, keeps Filipinos from testing, treatment – CHR

MANILA, Philippines—Marking Zero HIV Stigma Day, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Tuesday sounded the alarm on persistent stigma that continues to prevent many from getting tested and accessing life-saving treatment.

“While awareness of HIV has significantly improved over the years, the specific challenge of stigmatization for those living with HIV still persists,” said the CHR in a statement, urging Filipinos to reject discrimination against those living with the virus.

Despite increased public awareness, the CHR noted that HIV-related stigma remains a significant barrier, discouraging many individuals from undergoing testing and seeking treatment.
