The conflict between the United States and Iran intensified further as Washington carried out its tenth consecutive night of military strikes while Tehran expanded its retaliation across the Gulf. The latest developments unfolded alongside fresh attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, raising new concerns over regional stability and global energy supplies.
The US military said its latest operation targeted Iranian military command centers, maritime assets, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems. According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes were intended to weaken Iran's ability to continue attacking commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important shipping routes for oil and gas.
“US forces struck Iranian military command centers, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems to degrade Iran's ability to continue attacking commercial vessels flowing through the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM said, adding that American forces remain prepared to respond to further attacks on civilian shipping.
The US military said commercial navigation through the waterway continues despite the fighting. Since early May, US forces have helped facilitate the passage of roughly 900 commercial ships and around 450 million barrels of crude oil through the strait.
