Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network developed by Coinbase, is set to launch its 1:1-backed tokenized U.S. equities soon, according to Jesse Pollak, Base’s lead developer. This new initiative will enable users to access tokenized shares of U.S. companies such as Apple and Tesla. The equities will be fully backed and held in regulated custody, offering on-chain transfer and redemption rights, along with automatic dividend pass-through. This development is seen as a significant step in expanding real-world asset infrastructure on Base. The announcement follows recent regulatory progress, including the SEC’s approval of Nasdaq’s tokenized securities rule earlier this year.
The imminent launch of these tokenized equities appears to have influenced market sentiment regarding Base’s broader token launch prospects. Currently, markets suggest a modest increase in optimism about Base launching a token by the end of 2026. The probability of such a launch by December 31, 2026, has risen to 12.5%, up from 10% just a day earlier. This reflects a growing confidence in Base’s ability to expand its ecosystem within the regulatory framework.
