The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Tuesday approached the Supreme Court against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's decision to approve the merger of its six Lok Sabha MPs with the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.The matter was mentioned before a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi by senior advocate Devadatt Kamat, appearing for the Shiv Sena (UBT), who sought to have the plea listed for hearing on Wednesday."We will see," the CJI said.Kamat informed the bench that the Speaker had approved the merger of six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs with the Shinde-led Shiv Sena on July 18."The Speaker has recognised the merger (of six MPs)," he said, adding that this has become a national phenomenon as MPs are merging with those against whom they had contested and won the elections.Ahead of the Monsoon Session, Birla on July 18 approved the merger of six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs with the Shiv Sena led by Shinde.(With PTI inputs)

Shiv Sena (UBT) has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Lok Sabha Speaker's decision. The Speaker approved the merger of six MPs with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. This decision was made on July 18, just before the Monsoon Session began. Senior advocate Devadatt Kamat mentioned the plea before the Chief Justice's bench. The court indicated it would consider listing the matter for a hearing soon.
