The National Emergency Management Agency has commenced an assessment of communities devastated by a windstorm and heavy rainfall in Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State, where four people lost their lives, and hundreds of households were destroyed.
The assessment, conducted by NEMA’s Sokoto Operations Office on Saturday, covered the worst-hit communities, including Mallamawa, Mai Mushe, Kaura, Sabon Gari, Rungin Tsamiya and other surrounding settlements.
Arewa PUNCH reports that preliminary findings by the agency showed that, in addition to the four fatalities, several residents sustained varying degrees of injuries, while strong winds and heavy rainfall destroyed homes and damaged key public facilities.
The assessment team also recorded extensive destruction to critical infrastructure, including a primary school and a hospital, highlighting the scale of the disaster.
