KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane
Despite financial constraints, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health has committed itself to ensuring that skilled staff members are deployed to healthcare facilities in the province to ensure that patients received quality healthcare.
Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane detailed her department's plan to fill vacancies while tabling her budget last week.
“Despite severe financial constraints, we have continued investing in our workforce by filling critical vacancies, strengthening leadership, and developing the skills our province needs.
“Since October 2025, we have appointed 188 Medical Officers, 43 Medical Specialists, 197 Professional Nurses, 242 Staff Nurses, 25 Pharmacists, and 20 Registrars. We are not stopping there. In the coming weeks, we will advertise a further 39 Medical Officer posts.”
