Unemployed doctors in KwaZulu-Natal gather to protest against job shortages, highlighting the urgent need for government action to address the healthcare staffing crisis.
A group of unemployed doctors gathered outside the Natalia Building on Thursday, calling on the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government to take immediate action to create job opportunities for qualified medical professionals.
The protest highlighted a pressing issue within the country's public healthcare system: a significant number of qualified doctors are currently without work despite shortages in hospitals and clinics.
Representatives from the KZN Unemployed Doctors Committee said that more than 200 qualified medical practitioners were struggling to secure employment due mainly to the ongoing budget constraints cited by the Department of Health.
Yanga Mbhele, a member of the committee, voiced the frustrations of the doctors, some of whom have been waiting for years for their skills to be properly utilised.
