The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has handed over essential medical equipment for sexual and reproductive health, including maternal health care, to rural health facilities across Samoa while launching a new Commodities Logistics Management System (CLMS) Manual to strengthen health services nationwide.
UNFPA Regional Director Dr. Aleksandar Sasha Bodiroza said the initiative builds on Samoa's commitment to ensuring every woman, adolescent and family can access quality sexual and reproductive health and maternal health services regardless of where they live.
He said the recently launched 2025 Health Facilities Readiness and Service Availability Assessment, conducted jointly by the Ministry of Health and UNFPA, identified priority areas for investment.
"The equipment will support district hospitals, community health centers and outreach services in Upolu, Savaii, Manono and Apolima, improving maternal health outcomes and strengthening sexual and reproductive health services," Bodiroza said.
Minister of Health Va'aaoao Salumalo Alofipo thanked UNFPA for the donation, saying the equipment will assist mothers with difficult pregnancies, family planning and reproductive health services, including complicated deliveries.
