Andy Burnham is keeping his cards close to his chest.
The incoming prime minister has taken to politely signalling that he doesn’t want a chat to acquaintances while traversing the halls of Westminster with a cheery: “It’s all getting very real.”
And on Monday, it gets very real indeed. As Burnham enters Downing Street, policy and personnel will become clear. The appointment of his cabinet will present Labour with its first challenge to its newfound optimism.
