In a statement issued on Monday, July 20, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that it had targeted US military assets in Kuwait, including an early-warning radar system and MQ-9 drone facilities at Ali Al-Salem Air Base.
The IRGC statement claimed that an American radar system was “completely destroyed” during a drone strike, while a separate attack targeted an aviation equipment and spare-parts warehouse, as well as a drone hangar, at Ali Al-Salem Air Base.
Concurrently, Iranian state media reported explosions in Bahrain and attacks on “US positions” in the country.
In a separate announcement, the IRGC claimed that two oil tankers attempting to navigate the southern route through the Strait of Hormuz exploded late on Sunday night and were disabled. The statement provided no details regarding the names of the vessels, their flags, the precise locations of the incidents, or the status of their crews.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a vessel caught fire early on Monday morning in Omani waters at the northernmost point of the Musandam Peninsula, near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. While UKMTO noted that the cause of the fire remained unconfirmed, it urged vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
