As a result of a Russian military attack on a Guinea-Bissau-flagged merchant vessel near Odesa, 10 people were killed, including a marine pilot employed by the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).
The USPA press service stated this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
"The search and rescue operation continued throughout the night. The fire on board the vessel has been contained. Eight crew members were rescued and brought safely ashore. Unfortunately, 10 people, including a pilot from the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, were killed," the statement said.
The Russian strike on the Guinea-Bissau-flagged merchant vessel took place on July 19 as the ship was departing the Port of Odesa after loading a cargo of corn. There were 17 crew members on board—citizens of Syria and India—as well as a marine pilot from the Delta Pilot branch of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.
