Ten minutes before the first event, the loudest sounds inside CrossFit Apia weren’t instructions from coaches or the drop of heavy weights.

They were the sounds of little feet as children played around on the competition floor

Minutes later, those same children stood shoulder to shoulder, waiting for the countdown before each event began. For many, it was their first taste of competition.

CrossFit Apia hosted the inaugural CrossFit Kids Throwdown on Saturday, bringing together 12 teams of children aged four to nine for the first CrossFit competition for children held in Samoa and the Pacific.

Across four events, the young athletes skipped, climbed, lifted and ran their way through the morning, encouraged by teammates, parents and a packed crowd of supporters.
