Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, have announced the birth of their fourth child, a son, making him the first vice president in more than 150 years to welcome a child while in office."We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning," the Vance family said in a statement on social media July 19. "Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother."Usha Vance gave birth July 19 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The couple thanked doctors and staff members at the medical center and the White House medical unit.The couple already have three children: sons Ewan, 9, and Vivek, 6, and daughter Mirabel, 4. The Vances largely keep their children out of public view.The last vice president known to have a child while in office was Schuyler Colfax, whose son, Schuyler Colfax III, was born in 1870, according to the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University and The Associated Press. Before that, Vice President John C. Calhoun welcomed a son, William, in 1829, according to Clemson University.Usha Vance indicated in an interview last summer with the conservative podcast host Meghan McCain that she wasn't sure about having more children after the couple welcomed their daughter, but she didn't rule it out. "Never say never," she said at the time.
