Economist and political activist, Prof Pat Utomi, on Saturday attributed Nigeria’s stunted development to poor leadership, weak institutions and the failure to build a culture that promotes national progress.
He insisted that the country’s future depends more on purposeful leadership than on natural resources or foreign loans.
Utomi spoke in Lagos while delivering the chairman’s address at the official Nigerian unveiling of “Take the Lead”, a leadership book authored by leadership coach and consultant, Dr Elvis Ukpaka.
Speaking on leadership and national development, the professor of political economy said decades of underperformance had raised difficult questions about the quality of leadership and governance in Nigeria.
“It is easy, because of all the talk about leadership, to assume that understanding who leaders are and what leaders do is an easy matter,” he said.
