A decade of legal baggage
FIFA’s relationship with US law enforcement has been, to put it diplomatically, complicated. The Department of Justice brought sweeping corruption indictments against FIFA officials back in 2015, a case that exposed systemic bribery, racketeering, and money laundering across international soccer’s highest levels.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted across the US, Canada, and Mexico, with multiple venues planned on American soil. New Jersey, home to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, is expected to be one of the marquee host locations.
