THE body of an elderly Siparia man, who was suspected to have been robbed and his house ransacked, was discovered in the pit of an outhouse next to his home on Friday.The grim discovery of the body of Dennis Archargee, 62, was made after police officers were alerted by a relative of Archargee that his premises appeared to be in disarray.According to a police report, around 10 a.m., the relative visited the home of Archargee, who lived alone on a property on Quarry Road. Neighbours told the relative he was last seen on Tuesday.The relative found the front door was padlocked and calls went unanswered. The relative told police she pried open the lock and entered the house, which she found appeared to be ransacked.She further noticed that the gas tank, generator, brush cutter and his Nissan B14 car were missing from the premises. The relative immediately contacted the police, who responded to the scene and began searching the surrounding property.During the search, officers discovered the man’s body, which officers said was found face-down in the hole of an outhouse. The area was cordoned off as investigators and crime scene personnel processed the scene.The body was removed pending a post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park to determine the cause of death.Members of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team, led by Vallence Rambharat, said his team was contacted about the missing man, and they were on their way to the area when they were informed the body was found.Police said Archargee’s car was discovered abandoned at Skinner Trace, Quarry Village, on Thursday.Archargee’s step-daughter, Jennelle Benard, 37, said she last saw him on Sunday when he came by her house to drop a packet of cigarettes for her mother.Benard said he was like a father to her, as her mother, Chanroutie Sookram-Lemo, and Archargee were in a relationship for over 30 years, but since she got a stroke last year, she (her mother) had been living with her (Benard).Archargee was employed as a truck driver, a mechanic and a welder.Bernard said she and his brother, Rudy, went to the property two days before the grim discovery to look for him after becoming concerned about his whereabouts.She said they looked around the premises, and during the search, she pulled open the door of the outhouse but did not look into the pit, believing he was not there.It was only when relatives returned to the property on Friday with the police that his body was discovered inside the outhouse.“One of the officers went into the outhouse and he looked inside, that was it. Why would they do such a thing? I looked in right there and I didn’t see him. This world we live in, the people don’t have a heart for anybody else,” she said in tears.“Dennis was a good man he would try to support us and assist wherever he could. Anywhere I wanted to go, he would take us. Anything we wanted he would bring it. He was always there for us,” Benard added.“This is very, very heartbreaking, but I am leaving this in the hands of the Lord.”
