Four persons were killed and another sustained grievous injuries after the car in which they were travelling reportedly rammed into a lorry near Sattaravu Junction on the Anakapalli–Anandapuram Highway under the Anandapuram police station limits in Visakhapatnam district in the early hours of Sunday.According to the police, the accident occurred at around 3.30 a.m. when the car, travelling from Narasaraopeta to Tekkali in Srikakulam district, allegedly rammed into a moving lorry, resulting in a severe impact.The deceased were identified as P. Ramanjaneyalu (50), Sheikh Meeravalli (56), M. Bhavani Shankar (11), and M. Srinivas Rao (50). Bhavani Shankar’s father M. Chandrasekhar sustained serious injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.The Anandapuram police rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The bodies were shifted for post-mortem examination.Preliminary investigation suggests that the accident may have occurred due to overspeeding or because the driver dozed off at the wheel. A case has been registered, and further investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, including whether poor visibility or driver error contributed to the collision.Transport Minister M. Ramprasad Reddy, Home Minister V. Anitha, and Social Welfare Minister and Visakhapatnam district in-charge Minister Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy expressed grief over the accident and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families.Mr. Ramprasad Reddy directed officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment for Mr. Chandrasekhar.Bheemunipatnam MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao also expressed grief over the incident.
