The Telangana government’s one lakh Indiramma Houses for people from Lower Income Groups (LIG) in the Core Urban Region (CURE) will be launched on Monday (July 20). The houses would be constructed in multi-storey buildings up to 10 floors.People would get clarity on the eligibility criteria, application process and a few more crucial details on Monday. Housing and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said that he, along with Hyderabad in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Rangareddy in-charge Minister D. Sridhar Babu and Minorities Welfare Minister Md. Azharuddin would release a brochure with these details.Stating that each of the constituencies would be treated as a separate unit, the Minister suggested that people apply in their own constituency. The scheme is designed to ensure people don’t have to move far away from their source of livelihood, schools or other educational institutes of their children and their current residence.After Congress formed the government in the State, the Indiramma Houses were constructed predominantly in rural districts and a few parts of Medchal-Malkjgiri district, with ₹5 lakh towards the construction of the houses, making them a 100% subsidised dwellings. The second phase of the scheme was launched in Asifabad in June.Rolling out the scheme in and around Hyderabad was a challenge due to scarce land availability. The State Cabinet in May approved the construction of one lakh LIG houses in CURE. Following this, the Housing department identified government lands in the region.
