Food delivery workers affiliated with the online platforms Efood and Wolt are set to hold a five-hour work stoppage on Sunday night, coinciding with the World Cup final.

The action follows the death earlier this week of a 20-year-old delivery worker, who was killed in a road accident on a main Athens road while on duty.

Efood-affiliated delivery workers had initially announced a strike for Sunday night more than a week ago, citing demands for higher wages and improved working conditions. The demands have since been reiterated by their unions.

A union representing Efood workers said that excessive workloads, long hours, piece-rate pay and pressure for faster deliveries are creating unsafe working conditions for delivery workers.
