A 21-year-old Gugulethu woman receives R4.7 million in compensation from the Road Accident Fund after suffering severe injuries in a hit-and-run accident, which shattered her aspirations of becoming a teacher.
A 21-year-old Gugulethu woman who now carries lifelong scars from a hit and run accident, will be compensated to the tune of R4.7 million after the Western Cape High Court ordered the claim through the Road Accident Fund (RAF).
The woman, who was a 16 year old school pupil at the time of the accident, had dreams of qualifying as a school teacher.
In his judgment, Acting Judge of the Western Cape High Court, Fareed Moosa, noted that due to her accident-related injuries, the woman’s dream was dashed.
According to court documents, while she was a pedestrian on a pavement at the NY 3A Road in Gugulethu, she was hit by a Quantum van. Immediately after the accident, the vehicle’s unidentified driver fled the scene.
