Venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya warned that limiting access to open-source artificial intelligence (AI) could weaken U.S. economic competitiveness and create strategic risks as AI becomes central to future industries and national security.
Palihapitiya Defends Open-Source AI On Saturday, Palihapitiya argued in a post on X that open-source AI is essential for maintaining America’s technological advantage and should not be restricted.
"The future is open source.
We need to embrace it and get on with it," Palihapitiya wrote.
He warned that shutting the door on open-source AI could force U.S. companies to pay significantly higher costs for AI capabilities compared with global competitors.
