A coalition of 23 civil society organisations in Kano State has accused the state government of diverting public resources to reward loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The organisations alleged that the distribution of 1540 plots of land and ₦100 million to grassroots party leaders amounts to political patronage and violates Nigeria's Constitution and the Electoral Act.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the League of Civil Society Organisations in Kano State described the allocation as "a direct affront" to millions of residents grappling with poverty and economic hardship.
The coalition argued that the government's action was particularly troubling because Kano has one of the highest poverty burdens in Nigeria.
