POLITICAL and community leaders are calling for urgent government intervention to address growing concerns over alleged labour violations and the controversial actions of Labour and Community Organisations (LACO), emphasising the need for lawful engagement and protection of workers' rights.
Shameen Thakur-Rajbansi, head of the Minority Front, said while allegations against businesses must be taken seriously, all interventions should remain lawful and balanced.
She noted that LACO largely represented Black African workers and dealt with allegations involving undocumented foreign nationals, which she said fell under the jurisdiction of the Departments of Labour and Home Affairs.
“The vigilante tactics employed by LACO are questionable within our constitutional framework. However, the allegations raised by LACO are deeply concerning and must be treated with seriousness, fairness, and urgency.”She stressed that no worker should face abuse or exploitation.
