France wing Emile Ntamack kicks the ball ahead during their Rugby World Cup semi-final against the Springboks at a soaked King's Park in Durban.

On each occasion I am fortunate enough to watch the Springboks at Kings Park, as was the case at yesterday's match against Wales, I recall the most extraordinary rugby match I have witnessed.

For pre-match drama, nothing matches what unfolded in monsoon conditions in Durban in the World Cup semi-final of ‘95.

I was a spectator in an open stand, and I vividly recall how helpless we were in the face of Mother Nature at her most destructive. The rain was so heavy it felt like we were being sprayed by a fire hose.

The match almost never took place, and kick-off was delayed by ninety minutes because Welsh referee Derek Bevan was concerned that a front-row forward could have drowned had a scrum collapsed in the deep puddles.
