Auroville Foundation has launched its television channel with an aim to promote the spirit behind the establishment of the universal township by Mirra Alfassa, known as “The Mother.”At an event held in Auroville, Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan inaugurated Auroville Television in the presence of Secretary of Auroville Foundation and Additional Chief Secretary of Gujarat Jayanti S. Ravi and Managing Director of India Tourism Development Corporation Mugdha Sinha, the foundation said in a release.The Lt. Governor in his inaugural address said the conceptualisation of Auroville Television goes beyond standard broadcasting norms. “We are not merely inaugurating a television channel but opening a new gateway through which ideals, aspirations and achievements of Auroville will reach people across all continents. It is a communication mission,” he said.Highlighting Auroville’s status as a Universal Township inspired by the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and conceived by the Mother, he said, “the township now stands as one of the world’s finest living examples of international cooperation and cultural harmony, housing residents from more than 60 countries.”The Auroville Television, he said should become a platform for regular updates, reinforcing transparency in the administration, and fostering greater understanding among residents and the wider global community. The Secretary in her address said the channel’s core mission aligns with Sanatana Dharma, “aiming to permeate the material world with divinity and demonstrating that one could achieve a divine life on earth.” Published - July 18, 2026 09:18 pm IST
