Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar on Saturday (July 18) interacted with students from Corporation schools as part of the ‘Coffee with Collector’ initiative, encouraging them to pursue higher education, develop skills and make informed career choices.The interactive session, held at the Collectorate, brought together 50 students from 10 Corporation higher secondary schools across the city. Assistant Collector (Trainee) Tushar Singh, Corporation Educational Officer Gunasekaran, district coordinators, headteachers and teachers participated in the programme.During the interaction, the Collector sought feedback from students on various aspects of school education, including academics, sports, and extracurricular activities. He also discussed opportunities for higher education, career prospects in different fields, and the industrial landscape of Coimbatore, highlighting the district’s major industries and manufacturing sector.Mr. Giriyappanavar stressed the importance of physical fitness alongside academics and urged students to stay away from substance abuse while taking an active role in spreading awareness against drug use among their peers.To help students make informed career decisions, he said the district administration would facilitate educational visits to institutions and organisations related to the fields they aspire to pursue. He also assured them of guidance and support for preparing for competitive examinations.The programme was conducted in an informal and interactive manner, allowing students to freely share their aspirations and concerns. Officials said the initiative was aimed at motivating students, boosting their confidence, and exposing them to higher education and career opportunities beyond the classroom.
