Public Service and Administration Minister Mzamo Buthelezi says the proposal that the Special Investigating Unit conducts lifestyle audits across the public service is not financially viable.
Public Service and Administration Minister Mzamo Buthelezi has pushed back against proposals for the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to conduct comprehensive lifestyle audits across all government departments.
This move follows a direct request to President Cyril Ramaphosa from the DA, seeking to authorise the SIU to team up with the State Security Agency in conducting lifestyle audits across the public service.
Buthelezi asserted that such audits across all departments, state-owned entities, and other organs of state were not financially viable and had legislative limitations.
“Mandating the SIU to perform lifestyle audits for all departments, including low-risk entities, would be financially unsustainable,” he said.
