Peter-Steph du Toit continues his battle with Wales as he captains the Springboks in Durban.
It is maybe a good thing that Pieter-Steph du Toit is captaining the Springboks against Wales this evening because he has experienced plenty of pain against the Men from the Valleys, and will be preaching against complacency.
Du Toit has a deep relationship with Wales — as a 21-year-old, he made his debut in 2013 against Wales in Cardiff. The Boks won the game 24-17, but at the same venue in 2016, he was at lock when the Boks lost 27-13.
Two more losses followed: the 2017 defeat in Cardiff and the 2018 loss in Washington. That was the first Test for the Boks under Rassie Erasmus and … Du Toit’s first game as captain.
Eight years later, Du Toit is once more captaining the Boks against Wales. You can be sure he wants no more pain from the dogged Welshmen.
