Nothing takes the shine off a family holiday faster than a long airport queue. So, between the delays caused by new border checks across Europe and squeezed travel budgets, it’s no surprise that many families are making the most of the heat and holidaying in the UK this year.
The World Travel & Tourism Council found that more than a third (39 per cent) of British travellers would be much less likely to travel if there were possible delays of three hours or more – and experts have forecast waits of double this at some airports in Spain, Portugal and Italy.
Meanwhile, the cost of living means that more than a quarter (27 per cent) of UK families don’t have a summer holiday booked, according to The Family Holiday Charity and Airbnb.
