Motorola is expanding its Edge series with the Edge 70 Max. The smartphone is expected to be available in select European markets starting July 15 and will cost 799 Euros for the variant with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB UFS 4.1 storage.
The focus is on the unusually large 7100 mAh battery. Motorola is using a silicon-carbon chemistry, which is said to enable a higher energy density than conventional lithium-ion batteries. Charging is done via USB-C at up to 90 watts, while wireless charging up to 25 watts is possible according to the Qi2 standard. The device also supports 5-watt wired reverse charging.
The display is also noteworthy. The 6.82-inch AMOLED panel has a resolution of 1440 × 3168 pixels, supports refresh rates up to 144 Hz, and according to Motorola, achieves a peak brightness of up to 7000 nits. The display is HDR10+ capable and Pantone validated.
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 provides the computing power. Motorola combines the SoC with 8 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and integrates a 5500 square millimeter vapor chamber cooling system with liquid metal, which is intended to dissipate waste heat better under load. According to the manufacturer, CPU performance increases by 36 percent, GPU performance by 11 percent, and NPU performance by 46 percent compared to the previous Snapdragon generation.
