Spain coach Luis de la Fuente’s leadership, man-management and years of experience within the country’s youth football system have been credited as key factors behind La Roja’s run to the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.
Spain secured their place in the final with a 2-0 victory over France, moving within one win of becoming world champions for a second time.
Since taking charge of the national team in December 2022, De la Fuente has guided Spain to the 2023 UEFA Nations League title and the UEFA Euro 2024 crown, while also leading the team to the 2025 Nations League final.
Former teammates, colleagues and Spanish football figures told FIFA in a Thursday report that De la Fuente’s success stems as much from his character as his tactical ability.
Former Sevilla teammate and coach Manolo Jimenez described him as “a good person and a great colleague,” recalling that De la Fuente was always eager to develop young players while striving to improve himself.
