A Williamsville father is pleading with Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro and other authorities to do more to help find his son.Percy Bhagwath says after nearly two months of praying for the safe return of his missing son Simon Bhagwath, his family feels abandoned by those entrusted to investigate such cases.He made an emotional appeal yesterday to Guevarro and other authorities to intensify efforts to find his son, saying he feels his family has been carrying the burden of the search alone.“If the Commissioner could do something—because honestly, I don’t know who to turn to again. The only thing I have to turn to is God. I praying, the church is praying with me, other churches that are praying, and other good family and friends are praying with us”, said the father in an interview with the Express.“The police were never helpful. The way that we see things now is that we have no help from any authority. We don’t see any help from them at all. And apparently, we have to do our own thing, like go and look, and think where the vehicle may be, where he could be; we just thinking, praying and asking God to lead us in the right direction,” said Bhagwath.The Williamsville father said the last day he made contact with his son was on May 21, when Simon, 36, reported to officers of the Gasparillo Police Station that he believed people were trying to extort money from him.The father said his son reported he was helping his Spanish-speaking girlfriend pay a sum of money, but the debtors kept demanding more money from him, and he was very stressed as they threatened to beat him and give him a “trunk ride”.Since that day, Simon has not been seen and calls to his cellphone have gone unanswered.His white Y12 AD wagon bearing licence plate PDR 2070 also cannot be found.Bhagwath said the uncertainty behind his missing son has been devastating for the family, who continue to hold on to hope and pray that their loved one will be found.“Nobody is perfect, but I know his good has outweighed whatever bad people want to say. I know that God is able to keep him. Those who have him, God will cause them to find favour upon his life and at some point in time, they will have to release him because of the prayer of the righteous that is going up for my son,” said the father.He said he, his relatives and friends have continued to visit areas across the country searching for Simon, but so far, their efforts have yielded no breakthrough.The father believes greater involvement by law enforcement and other State agencies could make a significant difference in the search and is pleading for their help.He also appealed to members of the public, who may have seen his son or who may have any information about his whereabouts, to come forward and contact the nearest police station or investigators, no matter how insignificant the information may seem.Members of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team carried out searches, but found no leads.Bhagwath was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt with white writing, a pair of long grey pants and a pair of brown shoes. He was described as of East Indian descent, of brown complexion, five feet eight inches tall, of medium build, with brown eyes, short black hair and wearing glasses.Anyone with information can contact the police at 555, 999, 911, or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).
