Responsible politicians in Poland and Ukraine must prevent the escalation of interethnic hostility, as conflict between the two nations would have serious consequences for both countries.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk made the remarks in the Sejm on Friday while commenting on the fatal incident in the northern Polish town of Bytów involving Polish and Ukrainian citizens, Ukrinform's correspondent reports.
According to Tusk, he had carefully reviewed police reports, which currently indicate that the fight was not an interethnic conflict but rather a dispute that arose while the participants were under the influence of alcohol.
The Prime Minister stressed that it makes no difference whether the perpetrator is Polish or Ukrainian.
Tusk said that, for him, it made no difference whether the person committing violence or insulting others was Ukrainian or Polish, stressing that anyone responsible for such actions must face criminal liability.
