A group of workers at tyre manufacturing major MRF’s Perambalur Factory have been on an indefinite strike since July 3 demanding a long-pending wage settlement, businessline has learnt.Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) representatives, who are part of the strike, allege that a previous wage agreement expired in 2024, and workers have gone without a wage revision since then. The Union has submitted a charter of demands and various of rounds of conciliation talks have been held before Labour Commissioners, but there has been no clarity on a new agreement, they said. The strike is said to involve a few hundred permanent workers and the management is said to have suspended a few workers since the strike began, terming the strike illegal. Production at the plant is said to be continuing with the help of temporary workers and apprentices.MRF did not respond to businessline’s queries.Published on July 17, 2026
