BJP MLC M. Komariah has urged the Centre to introduce reforms in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) system, arguing that the current format places an unnecessary burden on teachers and fails to adequately assess their professional competence.In a representation submitted to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary in New Delhi, Mr. Komariah said the existing TET pattern has created difficulties for lakhs of teachers across the country.He contended that the examination does not effectively evaluate a teacher’s subject knowledge, as candidates are often required to answer questions that are unrelated to the subjects they teach. Another major concern, he said, is that primary school teachers are tested on portions of the Intermediate syllabus, which he described as inappropriate and unfair.According to the MLC, these shortcomings place severe mental stress on teachers who are already engaged in classroom responsibilities and professional development. He also called for the introduction of “service weightage” marks for teachers currently working in schools and constitution of an expert committee to study the existing TET system and recommend comprehensive reforms to make the examination more practical, equitable and teacher-friendly, said a press release on Friday.
