Russian occupying forces have not given up their plans to seize Ukrainian territory and establish a so-called buffer zone in the north of the country.
According to Ukrinform, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi announced this on Facebook.
"In the first half of 2026, we succeeded in establishing systematic and planned work on engineering fortifications for layered defense, developing anti-drone protection, and preparing populated areas for defense," Syrskyi wrote.
He noted that despite suffering significant losses, the enemy continues to increase weapons production, prepare for further offensive operations along a broad front, search for weak points in Ukraine's defenses, and attempt to infiltrate the areas between defensive positions.
According to the Commander-in-Chief, under these conditions, fortifications, engineering obstacles, and anti-drone protection are among the key elements of modern defense, helping reduce the enemy's offensive capabilities while saving the lives of Ukrainian defenders.
