The University of the Western Cape defender Antonia Maponya has made it into the Banyana Banyana squad for their Women's Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis has named a squad teeming with familiar experience and fresh talent for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will be hosted in Morocco later this month.
While the final 26-member squad retains a core of trusted players. Sibulele Holweni, however, stands out as the most notable omission from the provisional 31-member group.
Ellis has kept her goalkeeping department intact, with Andile Dlamini, Kaylin Swart, and Kebotseng Moletsane all retaining their spots. Dlamini and Swart are expected to compete for the No 1 jersey.
In defence, Lebohang Ramalepe, Fikile Magama, Karabo Dhlamini, Bambanani Mbane, Khutso Pila, Asanda Hadebe, Antonia Maponya, and Lonathemba Mhlongo have made the cut, whilst Tiisetso Makhubela, Sinegugu Zondi, and Shakira O’Malley were dropped.
