A fire outbreak on Thursday destroyed goods and property in a one-storey building on Ozubulu Street, by Bida Road, Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State.
The blaze, which reportedly caused damage worth several million naira, was later brought under control by the Anambra State Fire Service.
Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.
The cause of the fire has yet to be confirmed and is under investigation, although preliminary reports suggest it started in an area where flammable materials, mainly cartons and other items, were stored.
Eyewitnesses said the fire raged for several minutes before firefighters arrived and prevented it from spreading to nearby structures. They added that the firefighters encountered difficulty accessing the location due to the terrain and poor visibility.
