South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava’s trolley inspection of the newly commissioned three km Sitaphalmandi-Lallaguda chord line on Thursday (July 16, 2026) underscored the strategic importance of the project for rail operations in the Hyderabad region.Bypasses congested Secunderabad StationThe three-km chord line has been developed to strengthen connectivity between the Secunderabad-Kazipet and Secunderabad-Dhone routes by providing an alternative path that bypasses the heavily congested Secunderabad Railway Station.Key infra worksOver the past two years, the Railways have completed key infrastructure works on the stretch, including five minor bridges, a major road-over-bridge at the Alugadda Bhavi junction between Rail Nilayam and Mettuguda Road, and an automatic signalling system.Distance reduced by about 12 kmUntil now, trains travelling from Kazipet towards Kacheguda without entering Secunderabad station had to pass through Moula Ali and Malkajgiri, covering nearly 15 km. With the commissioning of the new chord line, the distance has been reduced by about 12 km, significantly cutting travel time. Trains from Kazipet can now reach Kacheguda directly via Lallaguda and Sitaphalmandi, bypassing both Secunderabad and Malkajgiri stations, said CPRO A. Sridhar.
